Important: changes to our membership rates

We are very grateful for the subscriptions we receive each year to fund, what we hope you agree, is important work on behalf of the local community.

Our team is growing and we have lots of plans for the future, which should benefit all of our members.

If you are a long-standing member, you will be aware that our subscription rates have remained unchanged for many years. Costs have increased in all areas and the banks are making it increasingly difficult, and time-consuming, to process cash and cheques. All our members are volunteers and this extra work is a real burden so, after careful review we are introducing the following changes.

New Simpler Annual Rates

From September 1st 2024 our membership rates are:

• £10 a year for a single member
• £20 a year for a couple or family at the same address (including children under 16 years)

Move to Direct Debits

New members will be able to join using our direct debit system only – this is in line with many other clubs and organisations.

If you currently pay by Standing Order, we will ask you to increase the amount you pay, or set up a direct debit before 1st September 2025 to retain all future benefits of membership.

If you currently pay by cash, cheque, or one-off card payment, to remain as a member, you will need to change your method of payment.

Please go to the Become a Member secure page and set up a direct debit. This is a very quick process which can be cancelled at any time.

Everyone paying by Direct Debit will be automatically contacted by email before your annual renewal payment is due.

These changes, combined with the automation in our new website, will save a considerable amount of time and money and enable us to divert even more of our effort into our core purpose of caring for Kew.

Thank you for your support.

Janet Clark, Membership Trustee

Land at 53 Old Deer Park Gardens

Applications for a house at 53 Old Deer Park Gardens have been revived and comments again sought. There were numerous objections, partly on the grounds that this land should have been part of the Old Deer Park and had been left out by mistake and that part of the wall, which would be lost, should be listed.

77 North Road

77 North Road was previously the North Road GP Suregery.  An application for substantial extensions and alterations for a day nursery for up to 80 children with 15-25 staff has been made. The Kew Society is generally supportive of the site’s being a day nursery but is concerned by the scale of this proposal.
