How to set up a Direct Debit

Step 1: Complete your member information

Once you have selected the membership type you would like, complete the questions and required details and click Next.

Then enter your own personal details (these should be the same as the billing details for your bank account).

You must create a password to access your Member Account in future.

Your Member Account allows you to login and check and change your personal information, accessible via the Account Login link in the navigation.

Please tick Gift Aid if you are eligible. This is a valuable source of income to Kew Society, as you continue to pay an amount of tax equal to the tax we reclaim on your donations.

Check your order and then click Sign Up Now.

Step 2: Pay by bank Direct Debit

Our secure payment provider GoCardless will open in a pop-up window. See below (details have been blurred for confidentiality only).

If you cannot see this, please check your browser security settings that you are not blocking pop ups.

Your information should be showing automatically, if not please add it.

Check the information is correct and then click Continue.

Step 3: Select your bank

Select your bank. Start typing if you cannot see it listed.

You will then see a screen as below.

Tick the box “I can authorise Direct Debits on the account myself” and click Set up this Direct Debit.

Step 4: Approve the Direct Debit

At this point you will need the login details for your online banking account or a mobile phone with your banking app installed.

You will see a screen as below (the QR code has been blurred for security):

Option 1: By phone

If you have your banking app on your phone, open your camera and focus on the QR code. Adjust your phone’s distance until it highlights the QR code and shows a link. Then tap the link.

This should open your online banking app, or if not it will open your bank’s website login bank.

Option 2: By desktop PC/Mac

If you do not wish to use your phone, simply click Continue to desktop which will open a new browser tab with the login page of your bank. This is fully secure.

If it does NOT appear make sure your internet browser security is not set to block “pop ups”.

Your bank’s layout may be different but in either case you should see something like this. In this example it is Barclays.

Login as you usually do.

Select the account you wish to pay from, if you have more than one.

You should then see a summary of the Direct Debit details. It will say ‘GoCardless’ as that is our secure payment gateway provider.

Check the information is correct and click Confirm to approve the set up of pay by bank Direct Debit.

After this has processed you will see the following screen.

Close the browser tab on which this is displayed.

You do this by clicking the ‘X’ on the tab you’re looking at. It’s at the top of your browser and will look similar to this – see the red circle. Do NOT close the entire window or browser.

Kew Society is now able to take your payment securely via Direct Debit from your bank.

Step 5: Completion

When you close the GoCardless tab, it will reveal a Kew Society website page confirming your order has been received and the Direct Debit set up. See below.

Your membership to Kew Society is now complete.

The payment will show in you bank statement as “Go Cardless” and not Kew Society.
