At present, low white railings are in place around most of Kew Green. The Parks Department of Richmond Council have proposed that these are now extended to other parts of the Green, whilst still allowing convenient pedestrian and wheelchair access. As well as being visually attractive, the additional railings would serve the very important purpose of protecting this much loved, historic green space by preventing vehicles from driving onto the land and unauthorised encampments. This would be an expensive investment and so the Council is conducting a borough-wide consultation to gauge support for the proposals, see the map below – the red lines indicate where the additional railings will be installed.
Importantly, all votes have equal weighting, and council tax payers in other parts of the borough may feel that this work will be of little or no benefit to them and therefore these proposals will need a substantial number of supportive votes from local residents to ensure their implementation. Completing the consultation is easy as only simple information is required and there is a tick box as to your opinion with an opportunity to provide further comments.
