Our successes influencing planning decisions
The Kew Society has a proud record of monitoring planning applications that might impact on our lives within Kew and of making representations where we feel that they are perhaps non-compliant or otherwise inappropriate.
Past projects where the planners’ decision was consistent with our recommendations or objections include:
32 Haverfield Gardens: We objected to the initial application (in 2021) of the proposal to redevelop this site with five new houses on grounds that these would have been overbearing in the context of the street. This led to the applicant submitting a revised application with a reduced height (with basement) that the Council approved. See more detail and updates here.
85 Kew Green: Several applications were put in by the owners of the nursery by Kew Bridge for retrospective consent for large illuminated signs on the building. The Kew Society joined others in objecting to the “inappropriateness” of this in the Kew Green Conservation Area, leading to the Council refusing each application.
Bell & Crown, Strand on the Green: The Kew Society along with others, objected to the retrospective application for approval of an unsightly rear extension to this pub, visible from the Kew towpath. The application was subsequently withdrawn and the extension removed.
Chiswick Curve: the Kew Society was a “Rule 6” Party at the Public Inquiry in 2018, objecting to this planning application for the proposed 32 storey tower block on Chiswick Roundabout. The application was thrown out by the High Court in 2020 after an appeal by the developer against the SoS’s overturning of the planning inspector’s approval.
