Kew Retail Park Development on hold
There’s some interesting news about the redevelopment of Kew Retail Park. In April 2021 is was announced that it was going to be transformed with new commercial and retail space and a re-vamped M&S store, underground parking and more than 1000 flats in a series of relatively high rise buildings.
The Kew Society has formally raised a number of concerns, mainly around the heights of the buildings, traffic volumes and social housing.
In October of 2024 we reported that the architects JTP were planning a public exhibition of the latest proposals in mid November, only for that to be postponed until next year.
Now we hear from Sarah Olney, the MP for Richmond Park, that the whole scheme appears to be on hold.
In her weekly update she says that St George’s, the company behind the proposed development, has decided to maintain the Kew Retail Park as retail space “for the foreseeable future”.
She goes on to say that this means there are “no plans are in place for a major development of the site”.
At the time of writing we don’t have any more information but we will of course keep you informed when we do.
It is worth noting that the Government has promised extensive reforms to the planning system so there’s a lot of change to come which could alter St. George’s intentions.
