Kew Green Traffic Reduction Scheme Starting 30th March 2026

A traffic reduction scheme is coming into operation in Kew covering the Gloucester Road, Bushwood Road, Priory Road and Forest Road areas that are east of Kew Green and east of Kew Road (the A205). It will come into force on the 30 March 2026.

Exemption Area Plan (LBRUT)

Kew Green residents had submitted a petition to the Council in November 2023 requesting measures to remove ‘rat-running’ from the area. The petition had a total of 462 signatures, corresponding to 68% of addresses within the area.

This was followed by extensive consultations, a traffic survey, the establishment of a working group of Councillors, Council Officers and residents plus lengthy discussions with Transport for London. The Council concluded that “there was overwhelming support for a scheme of this type to proceed”.

The scheme will operate 24 hours a day. It will use Automatic Number Plate recognition and non-exempt vehicles will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice. Residents will be able to register their vehicles for an exemption and there will be access arrangements for non-permit holders.

The scheme is being implemented on an experimental basis with a statutory consultation period running for at least 6 months.

Full details about the scheme, applying for exemptions, arrangements for local businesses and carers and healthcare professional can all be found on the Council’s website by clicking here.

Land at 53 Old Deer Park Gardens

Applications for a house at 53 Old Deer Park Gardens have been revived and comments again sought. There were numerous objections, partly on the grounds that this land should have been part of the Old Deer Park and had been left out by mistake and that part of the wall, which would be lost, should be listed.
