Kew Society objects to planning application for Grovewood Flats

The Kew Society objected to a recent planning application 25/0010/FUL for the addition of two new floors to the existing six storey Grovewood block of flats off Sandycombe Road, Kew.

Image shows a 6 storey brown brick block of flats. The windows are white and the cladding underneath them brown. In front of the flats is scrub land with trees, bushes and ivy running up to railway tracks which we can see along the bottom of the picture. There is a blue road bridge cutting across the right.

Proposed North Elevation Grovewood (By LGS)

Our objection was based primarily on the grounds of the excessive height and the external design of the two additional proposed floors, which would be wholly inappropriate in an area of predominantly low-rise buildings and immediately adjacent to the Kew Gardens Conservation Area.  You can read our detailed objection here.

We are pleased to report that the application has been withdrawn and will keep a watchful eye on future proposals, should they emerge.

The Kew Society is generally supportive of the site’s being a day nursery but is concerned by the scale of this proposal.
