2025 Ends with a Sparkling Celebration

In December, the Kew Society was delighted to sponsor, with Trindle Stores, the Kew Sparkle 2025 Christmas tree on Kew Plaza.

We would like to send our congratulations and thanks to the Kew Sparkle organising team for another successful festive evening.

We are sure Kew Society members their family and friends all had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Children’s Christmas Fun

This year, together with Broomfield School PTA, we organised a family focused children’s painting activity to create the decorations for the tree. More than 75 decorations were produced by about 30 children in the Trindle Stores’ TiPi. A big thank you to the volunteers who made this event possible.

Goodbye to Anna

Another successful gardening year has come to an end bringing to a close Anna Anderson’s 4 year stint as gardening lead. Under her direction our team of volunteer gardeners have brought colour and interest to the village; a delightful welcome for visitors to Kew. We cannot thank her enough for her hard work. The incoming team have a tough act to follow.

Although the gardening year has come to an end, we continue to collaborate with Energy Garden for the Kew Gardens station platform gardens. We look forward to celebrating our 10 year partnership in 2026.

Poppies in the North Road garden

One of the highlights of this season was the addition of knitted and crocheted poppies to the North Road garden, the brainchild of volunteer Bharti Hindocha. This Remembrance Day event was much admired across the community and Bharti is looking forward to leading a bigger ceebration next year.

Consultation Work

Throughout the year, Kew Society has continued to respond to consultations on environmental matters that have a potential impact on Kew residents. We have also monitored local planning applications and developments in Kew and have updated residents on local infrastructure issues, such as the towpath breach and Kew Railway Bridge works.

The sky is blue and we can see a clear reflection of the bridge's pillars in the water. The trees on the banks of the river are bare as it is winterImage shows a winter scene with grey skies and a high river. The water appears a muddy colour. The path is collapsed and the river is flowing through the breach. We can see broken trees in the foreground and a grey metal barrier at the other side of the breach.

Looking forward to 2026

This year, as well as our usual activities, we are looking forward to celebrating the 125th anniversary of the creation of the Kew Society (formerly known as Kew Union). We are currently putting together a programme of activities and welcome members support and input in the months to come.
