Join the fun at the Kew Eco-fair and learn how to upcycle with us!
Saturday 22nd March | 10:00am - 3:00pm
The Kew Society is delighted to be taking part in the Kew EcoFair this year at St Luke’s Church, The Avenue. Following its huge success in 2023, the Kew EcoFair is back with a blast. Come along to St Luke’s Church in Kew on Saturday 22 March, from 10am to 3pm.
This award-winning event for the whole family aims to bring together the community to inspire action on climate change.
This year’s EcoFair will be opened by its patron broadcaster Jeremy Vine, London’s Deputy Mayor for the Environment Mete Coban MBE, The Bishop of Kingston, The Rt Revd Dr Martin Gainsborough, the Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Richard Pyne, and St Luke’s own Revd Melanie Harrington-Haynes.
It’s going to be an action packed day featuring inspiring talks, free bike health checks, a Repair Cafe, a ‘good as new’ clothes sale and ethical shopping. And you’ll be able to have a vegetarian lunch while listening to the musical entertainment!
The Kew Society team will be there all day teaching children (8 years and up) and adults, how to up-cycle old and unloved t-shirts into bags. And, as it’s the UN’s World Water Day on 22 March, we’ll be raising awareness about this annual event too, themed this year on Glacier preservation.
Our workshop is free to take part in and will run on a first come first serve basis throughout the day. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
You’re probably wondering about the connection between t-shirts and World Water Day. Did you know it takes approximately 2,700 litres of water to make one cotton t-shirt? Add to that all the water used in washing it during its lifetime and well that’s a lot of water!
The Kew Eco-fair is sure to be a fun day. Come and say “hi” and don’t forget to bring your old t-shirt to up-cycle!
As well as Kew Society, other organisations and businesses in attendance include: Habitats and Heritage, Richmond Council, Dose of Nature, Richmond Cycling Campaign, Richmond Friends of the Earth, Kew The Transition, River & Park, Gardens In a Jar, The King’s School, Darrell School and London Cycle Workshop.
