London Mayor’s draft new London Plan

Update 28/02/2018

We have submitted comments from the Kew Society to the draft new London Plan. You can see our response here:

New London Plan Kew Society comments final letter

Broadly, though there is much in the new draft London Plan we support, we have major concerns over:

(i) the overemphasis on growth in the South-East rather than a wider look at sustainable growth across the UK as a  whole

(ii) the weakening of protection of our green spaces and Metropolitan Open Land, including for the river Thames,

(iii) the protection of the World Heritage status of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

(iv) the need to identify funding, particularly for the necessary infrastructure to support housing growth, and

(v) an erosion of localism with insufficient flexibility left to Boroughs to achieve agreed overall aims.
